Warmed By the Word!

Beloved,

While it has been cold, even frigid at times over the last week, I remain grateful for the warmth of God’s Word.  There are some principles we should understand about God’s Word that should warm the eternal soul of every believer.

First, we must recognize God’s Word sparked the creation of all things. God simply uttered, “let there be” and all things came into existence.  God’s Word is powerful!  Theologians use a Latin term to suggest God creates “ex nihilo” or out of nothing.  God used nothing to create something.  There was no mixing bowl in which water and dirt where mixed with a spoon.  God used nothing to make something.  There was no rain and no sun to produce photosynthesis in the trees and the flowers. God used nothing to make something!  Indeed, God’s Word is powerful.

Secondly, the warmth of God’s Word is evident in the spark of the scriptures.  While theologians suggest God created everything out of nothing upon further inspection there was something.  That something was God’s Word.  God created everything from the spark of scripture and the poetic power of His pre-existence. Perhaps that is why the scriptures position God’s Word in both time and eternity by stating, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God and the Word was with God.” (John 1:1) Perhaps this why Isaiah 40:8 says, The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

The next time you get cold let me suggest that you have a Jeremiah moment because there is warmth in the Word.  Jeremiah 20:9 says, “Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.” There is warmth in God’s Word.

Sincerely yours and securely His,
